The production of this whisky began in 2019 under the leadership of Mr. Yoichiro Nishi, the 8th and current president of Nishi Shuzo Co., Ltd.. The Ontake distillery is located at the center of Satsuma peninsula, Kagoshima prefecture, at an altitude of 400 meters above sea level on a vast hilly terrain.

The distillery overlooks Sakurajima (Ontake) in Kinko Bay, and is blessed with an abundance of clear, soft water that has been naturally
filtered and polished over many years.

The climate is cool and the air is clean, suitable for storage even during the hot season. Using Nishi Shuzo’s own cultivated yeast, selected Nijo barley, and carefully selected sherr casks, A deep, mature, amber-colored whisky is born from blessings of nature at the Ontake Distillery.
