One of the most awarded small wineries in Australia, Majella makes some of the finest wines in Coonawarra. The family owned winery based in South Australia is run by the Lynn family, who have been residents of the Penola district for five generations, beginning as blacksmiths, storekeepers and finally, graziers. In 1968 Brian and Anthony Lynn started planting a vineyard on the family property that was purchased in 1960. The first vintage was in 1972, and from then until 1991 they were purely grape growers - selling their production to large wineries. In 1991 they decided to produce 10 tonnes of Shiraz on their own, and gradually more and more of their grapes were converted into estate wine.
