Fattoria di Fiorano
Located on the outskirts of Rome's busting, historic center Fattoria di Fiorano is the beautiful, urban "farm" of Alberico Boncompagni Ludovisi who pioneered winemaking in the 1940's with his passion for organic farming and winemaking at a time when increasingly more estates turned away from traditional methoids towards chemical enhancements. He decided to plant four grapes: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Sémillon and Malvasia, and cultivate them according to the principles of modern organic agriculture. The story of Fiorano became legend: a man who sold few bottles, was stubborn, and protected the relationship he had with his grapes so intensely that he uprooted most of his vines when he retired. From the precious remnants of her grandfather's vineyard, Alessia Antinori has revived the Fattoria Fiorano and continues to innovate and uphold the values of her family's winemkaing excellence. She has breathed new life into this storied estate.
