Clau de Nell
Clau de Nell is a distinguished biodynamic estate in the Loire Valley’s Anjou region, located in Ambillou-Château, where clay, flint and tuffeau limestone soils provide a distinctive foundation for expressive, terroir-driven wines. The domaine gained renewed recognition when the late Anne-Claude Leflaive, the celebrated former head of Domaine Leflaive in Burgundy, and her husband, Christian Jacques, acquired the property in 2008, drawn by its exceptional potential and commitment to biodynamic viticulture. Today, the estate is celebrated for its thoughtful approach to farming and winemaking, with a focus on allowing each grape variety and vineyard site to express its character with minimal intervention. Working with Cabernet Franc, Grolleau and Chenin Blanc, Clau de Nell produces wines that balance vibrant fruit, natural freshness and understated complexity with remarkable finesse. Guided by the principles of biodynamic agriculture and a philosophy of restraint in the cellar, the domaine has established itself as one of the Loire’s most compelling small producers, crafting elegant, distinctive wines that reflect both their origins and the enduring influence of Leflaive’s exacting approach to quality.
