Sitting atop a wind-battered rockpile with virtually no topsoil to the northern edge of the planting, La Rinconada is the deepest, darkest and most powerful wine that Tyler produces. Though this parcel yields very little fruit, thankfully what they bring to the cellar is truly fantastic. While top-soil is relatively shallow, the clay-loams here possess a water-holding capacity that allow them to irrigate judiciously. La Rinconada was planted by Richard Sanford in the mid-nineties, adjacent to and just west of the famed Sanford & Benedict Vineyard. Tyler's parcel is uniquely protected from the onshore winds by the hilltop of La Encantada Vineyard just to the west.
