Conterno Giacomo

Giacomo Conterno is an Italian winery located just outside Monforte d'Alba, which is situated in Piedmont, in the southern part of the Barolo DOCG zone. The estate is renowned for producing two exceptional Barolo wines, namely the Cascina Francia and the Monfortino Riserva. These wines are characterized by their earthy flavor and have a long shelf life.

In 1908, Giovanni Conterno established a small tavern in the village of San Giuseppe where he began producing Barolo to supply the business. During World War I, he bottled the first Riserva which was one of the first examples of Barolo produced by a single producer at a time when most were sold in bulk for early consumption. After Giovanni's death in 1934, his son Giacomo took over and ran the estate until his passing in 1961. Giacomo's sons, Giovanni and Aldo, worked together until Aldo left in 1969 over stylistic differences, forming his own estate. In 2003, Roberto Conterno, the grandson of Giacomo, took over the family business.
