Tenuta di Biserno
Lodovico Antinori discovered the property that would eventually become Tenuta di Biserno back in 1995, while researching land suitable for extending his then winery, Ornellaia. Markedly different from the geology of Ornellaia, it was much hillier and stonier and warranted a seperate project altogether. After the sale of Ornellaia, Lodovico Antinori and his brother Marchesi Piero Antinori began Tenuta di Biserno and breathed new life into the fabulous estate. The 49 hectares in Western Tuscany is nestled in the hills of Bibbona. It borders the historic village of Bolgheri and the views extend out to the Tyrrhenian Sea. Given the terroir, and the range of soils, Lodovico planted exclusively Bordeaux varietals. High density, marine sediment and clay, on well sheltered, north-west slopes, provide ideal conditions for Merlot - while the higher up and gravelly sites are perfect for Cabernet Franc. Their most recent edition, and first white, is a small production Vermentino from the Bibbona region.
