Perfecting the California classics, Robert Biale Vineyards has become a revered standard for Zinfandel and Petit Sirah production in the Napa Valley. With some vineyards dating back to the 1880's; diligent farming, expressive terroir and elegance are the winery's hallmarks. Although the property produces 20 wines, it is their Black Chicken Zinfandel that holds the flagship title and has become a benchmark for the varietal. It all started in the 1940's when a young Aldo Biale helped his mother make ends meet by selling some of the family's homemade wine to Napans - along with eggs and produce. Over the 'party line' phone system, the code words 'Black Chicken' signified a jug of bootleg wine.
