Poggio Antico

"At an average elevation of 480m above sea level, Poggio Antico’s vineyards are among the highest in the Brunello region. The lofty altitude combined with the close proximity to the Tyrrhenian Sea ensures that there is always a steady breeze which has the beneficial effect for the ripening of the grapes. Thanks to this blessed spot, Poggio Antico wines are characterized by their elegance. The soil is rocky and calcareous which provides for good drainage. The organic conversion and the use of cover crops is employed to aid with moisture retention, increase competition and regenerate the soil. The total property is 200 hectares with 33 under vine. Most of these plantings are Sangiovese, the hallmark grape for the Brunello appellation. The vineyards are situated so that they have South/Southwest exposure. All Poggio Antico’s vineyards are contained within a single estate, and all of the wine is produced from their own grapes.
